On Tuesday, June 8, 2010, SPS celebrated the accomplishments of over 170 graduates at the School’s fourth annual Commencement exercises, including the School’s first ever Master’s degree recipients. The event took place in the newly renovated Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, a backdrop that served to heighten the excitement and pride felt by the students, guests and faculty.
Chancellor Matthew Goldstein brought greetings to the graduates and Trustee Rita DiMartino reminded them to celebrate their accomplishment and to look forward to what lies ahead. Keynote greetings were delivered by Dr. Selma Botman, the president of the University of Southern Maine and creator of CUNY’s first-ever online degree at SPS.
Student speaker Eric Cuomo-Jones, summa cum laude graduate from the Online Baccalaureate in Business, offered an inspirational speech on behalf of his fellow graduates about the importance of following through on your dreams. Eric’s speech was selected from a dozen candidates, who all submitted such great speeches that SPS decided to publish them in a special booklet distributed at Commencement.
For the first time, live updates of the ceremony were posted through the School’s Twitter account. Selected photos and videos from the ceremony can be found below and videos of students receiving their diplomas can be viewed on the SPS YouTube Channel. Additional photos can be viewed on the SPS Facebook page and Flickr account.
SPS congratulates the class of 2010 on achieving this important milestone and offers best wishes for the future!
