Pre-requisites:
Practical experience with theatre development and production or at least one college level course in theatre is required. Course 1 of the Theatre Teaching Artist Certificate Program is recommended but not required.
Course Description:
The course prepares students to devise and perform appropriate, theatre/drama-based community interventions by exploring case studies and conducting field research. Students gain a theoretical and practical grounding in the study of “community drama”, a process for drama/theatre practitioners where they work to, with and for selected community groupings, using theatre to explore and intervene with particular problems or issues for that community. Community drama techniques are introduced in the larger context of students’ arts education settings, such as schools and museums.

This course is offered in association with the Paul A. Kaplan Center for Educational Drama of the CUNY Creative Arts Team.
