Course:
Teaching Through Theatre: The Theory and Practice of Theatre-in-Education (TIE)
Practical experience with theatre development and
production or at least one college level course in theatre is required.
The course provides an historical and theoretical
overview of theatre-in-education (TIE), a movement that educates through the
use of theatre, rather than by teaching students theatre appreciation or
skills. In studying TIE practices and methods, students learn a range of key
strategies and gain hands-on experience with use of them. Students also
reflect on the important elements of a successful educational arts
experience and gain a greater understanding of the requirements for a strong
partnership through developing and presenting their own TIE projects.
This course is offered in association with the Paul A. Kaplan Center for
Educational Drama of the
CUNY
Creative Arts Team.
