On the Loss of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

It is with a heavy heart that I note the passing of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. As a brilliant, dedicated, and hard-working native Brooklynite who overcame tremendous odds to become a lawyer, legal professor, and later the second woman justice on the court, Ginsburg became legendary for her impassioned efforts to end discrimination of all kinds and, in particular, to champion gender equality and women’s rights. With her death, she leaves behind a legacy of hope and possibility for generations to come.

More than anything, Ginsburg had a fundamental faith in people and their capacity to change the world together. At a time when so many of us are struggling with the deep wounds wrought by systemic racism, sexism, and other forms of injustice, I would encourage us all to follow the words of advice Ginsburg offered from her long and remarkable career: “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you."
