CUNY SPS Undergrad Psychology Rated in Top Five by U.S. News

CUNY SPS Psychology BA Ranked #4 in the Nation by U.S. News for 2023

In further recognition of excellence, the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) BA in Psychology program has been ranked among the top five nationally by U.S. News & World Report.

Following a peer assessment survey conducted by the publisher, the psychology BA program was ranked #4 in the nation in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 list of Best Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs in Psychology, out of 44 programs reviewed.

This high ranking joins other recent acclaim for CUNY SPS, which has been named #11 in the nation for Best Online Bachelor’s and #5 in the nation for Best Online Bachelor's for Veterans by U.S. News & World Report. It also marks the third year that the School’s online psychology BA was named among the top ten best in the country, and the second consecutive year it has been listed in the top five.

“I am delighted to learn that U.S. News & World Report has once again acknowledged our undergraduate psychology BA program, and that it is ranked in the top five in the nation,” said Dr. Carla Marquez-Lewis, academic director of the CUNY SPS BA in Psychology program. “Psychology degrees form the basis for graduate education and many careers, and I am very proud that CUNY SPS offers a rigorous, affordable, and accessible online program taught by top-notch faculty that continues to be nationally recognized for its quality.”

Developed to provide students with the essentials of the discipline, the BA in Psychology program at CUNY SPS teaches students how to conduct research, interpret behavioral situations, and communicate effectively. As part of their coursework, students choose a concentration in Organization Psychology, Psychological Development, or Psychopathology. The skills and knowledge they learn can be applied to a wide range of careers, including management and business, marketing, human and social services, government, and healthcare, as well as graduate study in the field.

For BA in Psychology alum Darnell Wold, who is now attending a Master of Social Work program, the CUNY SPS online psychology BA provided the skills and flexibility he needed to make a shift later in his career.

“It has always been my ultimate goal in life to pursue an education and career in the field of psychology and mental health,” Wold said. “After completing my associate degree, I knew that I wanted to further my education; however, my options were quite limited due to my busy schedule. I am a business owner and a caregiver, so finding an online bachelor’s program was crucial for me. Fortunately, I came across CUNY SPS and I was blown away by all of the positive reviews regarding the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program.”

Wold himself was able to personally attest to the program’s quality after he became a student here. “CUNY SPS provided me with a strong foundation regarding advanced research methods and statistical methods that I am certain will be beneficial once I begin graduate school,” he said. “I am confident that with the education and skills I have acquired throughout my bachelor’s degree I am well equipped…to pursue a career in the field of psychology.”
