The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) is proud to announce the launch of the Alumni Legacy Scholarship. The Alumni Engagement Council (AEC) developed this new scholarship for graduate students and is now accepting donations.

CUNY SPS Dean Dr. Lisa R. Braverman shared her enthusiasm for this initiative. “The Alumni Legacy Scholarship is new at the CUNY School of Professional Studies and will be a terrific boost for our graduate students, who often do not have access to financial assistance,” said Dr. Braverman. “As essential members of the CUNY SPS community, our alumni’s dedication to our School always makes me proud. I am so grateful for their support of our students and cannot wait to watch this new scholarship grow and help more students flourish through their generosity.”

The fund will offer financial assistance to students who graduate with their bachelor's degree at CUNY SPS and then continue in the School to pursue a master’s degree. The scholarship application will open for students in Fall 2024.

Like the students who will be eligible for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship, the donor who established this grant, Tyerence Brown, is a two-time graduate of CUNY SPS (BS in Business ’16 and MS in Business Management and Leadership ‘20). He also serves as a very active member of the AEC.

Mr. Brown recently spoke about why he was moved to provide the seed money for the scholarship. "I was inspired by the profound belief that every bright mind deserves a chance to shine.” He continued, “This scholarship is not just about financial aid; it's a beacon of hope, igniting dreams and fueling aspirations. My aim is to see it dismantle barriers, foster inclusivity, and pave pathways for groundbreaking innovations and leadership.”

Thanks to Mr. Brown’s generous donation, CUNY SPS alums now have an opportunity to foster new generations of scholars. He also hopes other alums will help to grow the endowment. “To motivate my fellow alums, I share this vision of transformative impact,” Mr. Brown said. “I urge them to join in weaving a legacy of empowerment and opportunity, where our collective contributions ignite countless futures."

Donors can contribute by visiting the CUNY SPS scholarship donation page and choosing “Alumni Legacy Scholarship” from the dropdown menu. Even though the main source of funding comes from alumni, all donations to the Alumni Legacy Scholarship are welcomed.
